VFW Post #10284
Moosup, Connecticut
By Shawn O'Domski
"Double Impact" was a benefit event for the family of Laurie
Courtemarche.
Laurie, who was a bartender at the VFW, was brutally murdered some weeks
ago.
Ring Announcer: Ricky Vazquez
Referees: Amber Rae, Steven "The Turtle" Weiner, Dan Tanaka,
Rich Bass
Commentators: Scott Angel and Shawn Vincent
2:00 p.m. event:
1. Owen Graichen, Slash Sullivan, and Louie Barboza defeated Afterburn
(Ray
Diamond & P.C. Cruz) and "The Rocket" Fred Curry, Jr.
2. "The Golden Greek" Alex Arion pinned "Revolution"
Chris Venom.
3. Tanya Lee beat Natalia and Nikki Roxx in a three way dance (Tanya
pinned
Natalia). This was the EPW debut for Tanya and Nikki.
4. Television Champion B.K. Jordan and "Self Proclaimed Television
Champ"
Bryce Andrews battled to a double countout. These guys didn't waste any
time
taking the action outside the ring. At one point, Jordan dumped Andrews
head
first into a trash can full of beer bottles, snack food bags, and so forth.
The brawl also wound up in the crowd and the concession/souvenir stand
area.
The outside-the-ring action caused both men to get counted out. Andrews
still
has possession of the championship belt though.
5. Grayson Alexander survived a ten-minute match over "The Epic"
Mike Bennett
(with Bryce Andrews). Before the match, Bennett says Alexander doesn't
belong
in the same ring with him, then he calls out Brutal Bob Evans. Bennett
says if
he can't beat Alexander in ten minutes, Bennett will claim defeat. Evans
agrees to the stipulation, and Grayson wound up surviving the ten minutes.
6. Chase Del Monte pinned Max Bauer, in a match that Bauer dominated.
Somehow,
Chase came up with the pinfall.
7. "Straight Edge" Brian Fury pinned "Trouble Walkin"
Thom Kane in Fury's EPW
debut.
8. The Winter Hill Gang (Clip O'Reilly and Sid Momentum) beat Pride (Dan
Freitas & Brian Nunes) and Matt & Bryan Logan in a ladder match
to become the
new Tag Team Champions. Much like the last ladder match in Fall River,
this
match turned out to look like a six-car pileup on I-395, instead of a
wrestling match. All six guys really worked their hearts out to give the
fans
a match they deserved to see. The underdog Winter Hill Gang victory stunned
the Moosup crowd.
7:00 p.m. event:
1. "The Promise" Antonio Thomas pinned "Powerhouse"
Kevin Landry. Lots of
actual wrestling in this one...no brawling. The fans were treated to a
good
match to open the evening show.
2. "The Real Deal" Brandon Locke pinned "Nightmare"
Nick Steel (with
"Egomaniac" Johnny Idol).
3. Lexus pinned Violet Flame. In a sign of sportsmanship, Violet congratulated
Lexus for the win.
4. Doug Summers beat Rocco Abruzzi in a Kiss My Foot match, after "Egomaniac"
Johnny Idol interfered. Idol distracts Abruzzi, steals his brass knuckles,
and
clocks him in the head with a microphone. With Abruzzi down and out, Idol
forces him to kiss Summers' feet. At least Summers kept his boots on.
5. Chunky But Funky (Sweet Scott Ashworth & Sonny Goodspeed) defeated
The
Elite (Preston Patrick & Shawn Stanley with Bryce Andrews) in a Disco
Inferno
match. If CBF lose, they would never dance again in Moosup. If The Elite
lose,
they have to dance with CBF for no less than two minutes, or face a $10,000
fine and a one-year suspension. This was a very fun match to watch. There
wasn't much wrestling, but more comedy. CBF came out to a wonderful ovation,
and danced around the ring for quite a while before the match even started.
During the match, different songs were played, interrupting the match
and
causing CBF to dance. The Elite were becoming frustrated. Ultimately,
the
match started...with Ashworth even hitting Stanley with a big dropkick
(very
un-Ashworth-like move!). Goodspeed scored the pin on Patrick after dropping
a
big time elbow on him. After the match, The Elite refused to dance. Brutal
Bob
Evans threatened The Elite with the fine and suspension. After screwing
around
and faking dance moves, Stanley and Patrick finally danced, if you want
to
call it that! This was a very fun match, and it's something you just had
to be
there to see.
6. "Steam" Roland Martinelli beat "Egomaniac" Johnny
Idol (with "Nightmare"
Nick Steel) in a Submission match with some sort of chicken wing/arm lock
type
hold. Rocco Abruzzi appears at one point, and takes back his recently
stolen
brass knuckles, and evens the playing field outside the ring.
Intermission for the construction of the steel cage, food and beverage,
Polaroids with CBF, Lexus, Brandon Locke, etc.
7. "The Pinnacle" Paul Lombardi defeated Michael Sain to win
the Heavyweight
Championship. After Sain gets in the cage, Lombardi immediately climbs
over
the cage and leaves the ring with the belt...however, the match never
started.
Lombardi claims he's the winner in the quickest cage match in wrestling
history. Referee Steven "The Turtle" Weiner orders Lombardi
back in the ring
by the count of ten. When the match started, these two brawled non-stop,
with
Lombardi working on Sain's already injured knee. During the brawl, referee
Steven "The Turtle" Weiner gets accidentally knocked out by
Sain. With the
referee down, Brian Milonas comes out, assaults referee Dan Tanaka (who
was
outside the ring, manning the cage door), and confronts Sain. Milonas
destroyed Sain with three big splashes off the middle rope...and left
him
laying motionless. After Milonas did his damage, Lombardi even tries to
see if
Sain is OK, but take advantage of Sain's injuries, and simply leaves the
cage
to regain the championship. With a stunned Moosup crowd looking on, Sain
remained motionless for several minutes, before being helped out of the
cage
by several wrestlers.
EPW returns to Connecticut on April 13 with Fan Appreciation Night at
the
Plainfield Town Hall.
