NYWC in Deer Park, NY on March 20
By Brett Schwan

For those of you who may be new to the site, or have not read my past reports. I just want to state that I am not a wrestler nor am I "in" the business in any way. I do not claim to be a reporter or a journalist. I am simply a paying fan who enjoys wrestling and for some sick, demented reason, people enjoy coming to my website (at least for the past 8 1/2 years). During those years I have come on here and pulled no punches in recapping shows that I attend. I have pissed off many people. I have also earned the respect of many because at least I don't sugar coat it and I am honest enough to tell it as I see it. Hell, the site covers over 80 indy promotions at this point so I must be doing something right.

I have the utmost respect for any wrestler who steps foot in the ring. I have even more respect for those who step foot in the ring, can tell a story in their match, know what psychology is, and MOST IMPORTANTLY know how to SELL.

If I happen to piss off a few people with my comments, I apologize. They are my opinions and no one else's. Feel free to email me to comment, complain, threaten, or say whatever you feel you may need to say at WresClothesline@aol.com. I in no way mean to offend anyone. I just hope to point out the obvious so, in the future, it can be remedied.

Remember, as long as the majority of fans enjoy the show and come back to the next one, that's all that matters.

NYWC returned to the Deer Park Community Center in Deer Park, NY on Saturday, March 20 for another edition of Rampage.

Belltime was scheduled for 7:00 but the show did not start until 7:25. Was this a sign of things to come?

Crew Members in attendance: Jim Brambilla, Frank, Sidekick Ron, Double K (one of the original crew members), and myself. Honorary Crew members Joe Evak and Pete were also in attendance. Luminaries in attendance included Robert Franklin and Jay.

Your ring announcer for the evening: Nick Vrona

Nick Vrona introduced the NYWC announce team, who still get an introduction. Head Referee for the evening is Chris Jackson. Andre is our other referee.

The National Anthem opened the show.

The opening match saw Spyder defeat Braggiol (with Prince Charles). The first thing I couldn't help but notice was the cameraman at ringside did not stand still for 2 seconds while filming. It's going to be like watching "The Blair Witch Project" while watching his tape. Braggiol dominated the opening minutes of the match until Spyder did the Undertaker rope walk into a triple jump fruity flip move. Why not pull out the flaming tables next and use everything possible in the opening match? Braggiol hits a Spinebuster, which is usually his finisher, for a two count. Braggiol follows up with a boot and a 747 Splash but Spyder, who is a good 100 pounds lighter that Braggiol, still kicks out. Avalanche by Braggiol for...guess what?? TWO! Flying headscissor by Spyder knocks Braggiol into the ropes. Spyder hits the 631 not only knocking Charles off the ring apron but knocking Braggiol back into the ring in perfect position for the springboard 450 splash and the pinfall.

Nick Noshus w/ JD Lishus (who bared a striking resemblance to our Ruby Tuesday waiter, Rich) defeated Damian Dragon, who was accompanied by Foxxy Dreams. A series of armdrags by Damian followed by a drop-kick knocks Noshus to the floor. Damian runs off the ropes and hits a baseball slide into a headscissors on Noshus. Noshus comes back in the ring and press slams Damian onto the top rope, into a Lishus diamond cutter. Noshus back to the floor at ringside. Damian attempts the headscissors move again but gets planted, face first, on the floor. Lishus and Noshus continue to double team Dragon. AT NO POINT did the referee even attempt to break anything up. Evidentially, the match has become a No DQ match without anyone knowing. Good job Ref Jackson! Noshus hits a beautiful Asai moonsault onto Damian at ringside. The two men make their way back into the ring. Damian with a backslide for a two count. A superkick and superplex by Noshus for a two count. Damian, on the ring apron, does a split. He then sweeps Noshus' legs from under him and hits a slingshot swanton onto Noshus for a two count. Damian off the top rope with a drop-kick Noshus hits a spinning sidewalk slam on Damian. Noshus grabs Foxxy by the hair. Foxxy tries to drop Noshus, throat first, on the top rope but gets caught by JD. Lishus drags Foxy by the hair. Damian, instead of running out to save Foxxy, watches until Noshus hits a ball shot from behind and rolls him up for the pinfall. After the match, they tape Damian to the ropes as JD and Nick beat up and powerbomb Foxxy. Good match. Bad calls (or lack of ) by the ref. Post match beatdown of Foxxy was well done. Of course, rolling her out of the ring and carrying her to the back could have done more damage to her neck and back but if the WWE can all but tell us wrestling is fake on Ch 9, why get a stretcher at a local indy show?

As Nick Vrona prepares to announce the next match, Tyler Payne comes out to complain about the main event later on. He handcuffs himself to the top rope as a protest. The next match is announced and begins.

Chief Dudley defeated Dan Dynasty after a moonsault. Tyler stole the show simply by being in the ring. Tyler asked us "Who books this crap?" (I won't say a word Tyler :) He also said he had time for 20 Questions instead of the usual 10. Tyler enjoyed a water and peanut butter cup during the match.

Mikey Whipwreck and Marty Jannetty come to the ring. Tyler prepares to announce his partner and Ru Star comes out. Ru Star offers his services to Tyler. Tyler then shakes Ru Star's hand and clotheslines him to the mat. (He's a magician as he magically was uncuffed). Tyler then announces his partner as Marty Janetty. Marty superkicks Mikey. Mikey is left laying in the ring, at least until he sat up and left.

Maniac Mike Mayhem took on Curse in the next match. The match started of with some nice chain wrestling. Curse worked on Mayhem's back for the entire match. He hit suplexes, a side slam, and ran him into the turnbuckles numerous times. See? That's how it's done. Work on the SAME body part, not 50 different ones. Mayhem hit a corkscrew 450 splash off the top rope. Mayhem goes for a drop-kick off the second rope but is caught and powerbombed by Curse who follows up with a running neckbreaker. While curse goes for a belly to back suplex on Mayhem, six guys run out to beat down Curse. Tony Burma tries to make the save but is beat down by the six guys as well. Mayhem and his minions leave the ring with Burma laid out.

Enter Crusher Doogan and Maison Raige. Doogan, as new commissioner, decides that the match between Raige and Burma should take place now. Raige starts the match choking Burma with a towel. Raige dominates the opening minutes of the match until Burma fights his way out of a bearhug and hits two clotheslines. Doogan gets on the ring apron but Burma knocks him down. Burma superplexed Raige which made the entire ring move. Raige hits a powerbomb out of nowhere for the pinfall. Good match with a very anticlimactic finish.

Intermission is next. Veronica Payne hates me.

Nuke with Tommy King defeated Mega. Nuke attacked Mega from behind but Mega fought back hitting two clotheslines, a bodyslam, and a legdrop for a two count. An avalanche by Mega. Nuke rolled out of the ring. Mega goes for a clothesline but he is thrown into the ringpost. Back in the ring Nuke with a suplex, Samoan Drop and a Vader Bomb for the pinfall. By the way, Ref Jackson changed his shoes since earlier.

Up next, Southern Vinny Stylin faced Ken Scampi with Tara Charisma. Scampi did the Taker rope walk into a Buff Blockbuster for a two count. Scampi went for a frog splash but hit Stylin's knees (if he hadn't taken 15 minutes to climb to the top rope, he might have hit). Tara Charisma gets on the ring apron. Stylin grabs Tara and drags her in the ring and kisses her. She smacks Stylin who retaliates with a clothesline. Stylin grabs his flag and hits Scampi for the pinfall.

The NYWC Tag Team Titles are on the line next as champions Wayne and Ru Star defeated Danny Doring and Chris Chetti. I don't mind a comedy match. Hell, when done right, they are actually comical. For whatever reason, Chetti kept doing a series of homosexual innuendoes on his opponents while telling the kids at ringside how big his penis is. Makes me wonder how come he hasn't worked regularly for ROH. At one point, both Chetti and Doring were pinning Ru Star and the ref was counting. So two men pinning one is now legal in NYWC Tag Title defenses. Wayne pulled the ref out of the ring to stop the count. Wayne enters the ring and whips Chetti into the ropes. Chetti goes for a sunset flip but Wayne hooks his legs and pins him. After the match, Nuke attacks the tag champs and Tommy King insists Nuke is now ready for the main event.

The next match was a three way match for the NYWC Lightweight Title. Dan Barry, the champion, faced Dickie Rodz and Grim Reefer. Reefer stars off attacking Barry while Dickie is at ringside. Dickie trips Barry. Reefer runs at Barry but is thrown out onto Dickie. Barry goes for a move but Ref Jackson (now back to his original shoes from earlier) stops him. As the ref is counting the two men at ringside, Barry runs off the ropes, jumps over the ref, and hits Reefer and Rodz on the floor. Back in the ring, Barry stomps the hell out of Rodz. Reefer runs at Rodz who throws Reefer shoulder first into the STEEL RINGPOST. Dickie has Barry in a submission move, Reefer FOUR SECONDS AFTER hitting the steel ringpost runs over and hits a side Russian leg sweep on Rodz who in turn hits a DDT on Barry (which Barry blocked). Reefer puts Dickie in an abdominal stretch as Barry puts the boots to Rodz before hitting an enziguri on Reefer. Reefer, still selling from the ringpost hit, now picks up Dickie and does a burning hammer to the turnbuckles. Barry attacks Reefer and sets him on the top rope. Barry goes for the Irish Car Bomb. Dickie hits a ball shot on Barry and powerbombs him which causes Reefer to land on Barry. Dickie then pinned Barry, with his feet on the ropes.

Now, Nick Vrona enters with his cell phone. (I'm not sure if he cell phone was part of this next brilliant twist in the storyline or not). He talks to the ref. Suddenly they realize that the match is now elimination rules!! Way to plan ahead!!

Rodz wears down Reefer with a headlock. Reefer with a tombstone and a frog splash for two. When Eddy Guerrero hits a frog splash it's a pinfall. Here, it's a two count. The ref bump was next. Unfortunately, everyone but the ref saw it coming. Rodz gets a chair and hits Reefer in the head with it for a two count. Barry runs in and grabs the chair. He diamond cutter's Dickie on the chair for a two count. When DDP hits it without a chair, it's a pinfall. Here, it's a two count. Reefer off the top rope with a Swanton for the victory and the title. Another anticlimactic finish. How come a chair shot or a move ON a chair can't pin a man but a Swanton can?

Your main event is up next. Tyler Payne and Marty Jannetty vs Mikey Whipwreck. Tyler was in full Rocker regalia. Mikey causes Tyler and Marty to run into each other a few times. Tyler and Marty then take over and beat down Mikey. It's now a good 15 minutes into the match and half the crowd has left. The remaining crowd is pretty dead with the exception of about 15 kids in one section. Marty and Tyler hit Rocker fistdrops on Mikey for a two count. Rocker Dropper on Mikey for a two count. Suddenly, Al Snow (with Phyllis... ask the Headbangers) runs in and attacks. Superkick on Marty. Al hits Marty with Phyllis (if you haven't figured it out yet, Phyllis is Head's name) which causes Marty to fall into a Whippersnapper for the pinfall. Mikey, who has been beaten down for at least 20 minutes, is not only your winner but he is now fine. You never would have known he had a match. Al Snow leaves.

The main event, even while having a GREAT surprise in Al Snow, was a huge disappointment to me. The fact that half the crowd left has to say something. Why did we have to wait so long before Al Snow ran out to hit 3 moves? Why couldn't Snow come out earlier and really pop the crowd and help build up to the match against Marty Janetty in April in Huntington? I don't know, I'm just a fan.

After the show, Dan Barry was walking around still looking pretty banged up from his match. Damian Dragon had to help Foxxy to their car, as her beatdown from Noshus and Lishus certainly took its toll. Oh what the fu#$ do I care, Vince proved it's all a work. Foxxy was still selling her injury ALL THE WAY TO HER FRIGGIN CAR!! Dan Barry was (although he legit had hurt ribs) selling his IN FRONT OF THE FANS!! Why the hell can they sell long after their matches are over, while others can't even sell and injury DURING A DAMN MATCH!!!???

I'm off my soapbox now. I vented enough after the show last night and on the way to Ruby Tuesday's.

Ruby Tuesday's, with about 10 customers last night, was a disaster as our lovely waiter Rich (the same one who nearly took of Damian's head for asking for steak sauce) took a good 30 minutes just to bring us drinks. I'm not even going to mention how long it took for the food to arrive OR for the refills.

We had to replace our usual post wrestling companions this evening as they either had to catch a bus OR their driver had to be off the roads by a certain time. We're not quite sure as they both gave us different stories. Must be the concussion from the match earlier LOL. Joe Evak, Pete, Double K, Brambilla, Frank, Sidekick Ron, and I still enjoyed a hell of a conversation while waiting the 90 minutes to see food.

I would LOVE to hear the opinions of anyone reading this or anyone who attended or worked on last night's show.

The next NYWC show is on April 2 at Walt Whitman High School in Huntington Station, NY. Announced last night was the main event of Al Snow v Marty Jannetty.
